March 2026: Recognizing the Comparison Trap
Meditation on Comparison — Exploring Self-Worth, Authenticity, Gratitude, and Freedom
Comparison is sneaky. It creeps in quietly—while scrolling, sitting in meetings, or watching someone else move through life with ease when you’re just trying to make it to bedtime. It whispers, You’re not enough. Or sometimes, You’re better than that. Either way, it pulls us out of the present moment and into a race no one ever wins.
ALS has been a brutal teacher here. I used to compare my body’s strength to what it once was. I’d watch other dads toss their kids in the air and think, I can’t do that anymore. But here’s what I’ve learned: comparison doesn’t just steal joy—it blinds us to the life we do have, the love we can give, and the beauty unfolding right here, right now.
This month, we’re going to get curious about comparison—not to shame ourselves for it, but to understand what it reveals. Each time comparison shows up, it’s like a blinking light on the dashboard, telling us there’s something worth noticing underneath. Maybe it’s a longing for connection. Maybe it’s fear. Maybe it’s a dream we’ve quietly set aside.
We won’t fight comparison. Instead, we’ll observe it, breathe through it, and choose compassion—for ourselves and for others. This isn’t about fixing anything. It’s about freeing ourselves to live fully in the life that’s ours, not someone else’s.
So, let’s lean in.
Let’s notice—without judgment.
Let’s honor the path we’re walking, with all its twists, turns, and detours.
Because, in the end, that’s where love lives:
Not in the measuring stick.
But in the present moment.
The Last Word is Love.
